Internship Program - SunSource

Department: College Relations (Grow Our Own Program)
Location: Savage, MN

The goal of the Internship Program is to provide 10 – 12 weeks of “real world” experience for students interested in industrial distribution sales (technical sales).  You will be integrated into a team working with Account Managers, Customer Service, Engineering, Purchasing, Service & Repair, and Warehouse/Distribution.  In addition, each intern is assigned a mentor for the 10 - 12-week paid internship program to offer guidance on project tasks and responsibilities.  You will have an opportunity to build upon what you have learned through your coursework.  Specific objectives are:

  • Exposure to cross-functional elements of the company: Customer Service, Operations, Purchasing, Service & Repair
  • Exposure to basic selling skills: Inside sales, Outbound calls, Sales ride-alongs
  • Exposure to fluid power technologies: Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Electronic, Automation, Filtration
  • Explore to a sales leader mentor: You will have the opportunity to learn from senior leaders as part of your 10 week experience

Each individual's internship experience will help build your skills and hopefully maximize your potential for consideration for future roles within our sales development program.  Your educational background, mechanical and technical skills, and self-motivation are your foundation to a rewarding career experience with SunSource.  Successful candidates in the Internship program possess:

  • Concentration in Engineering, industrial distribution, business or fluid power related field
  • Related internship or co-op experience preferred not required
  • Desire to pursue  their career in technical sales after graduation
  • Strong technical aptitude; much of what we do requires basic understanding of mechanical and/or electrical principles in industrial environments
  • Industrious entrepreneur spirit with the resilience and drive to succeed
  • Strong communication, presentation, and phone skills and business etiquette awareness
  • Willingness to be open to relocation
