In-House Corporate Counsel

SunSource, headquartered in Addison, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago), is one of North America’s leading fluid power distribution companies, providing products, services and information in hydraulics, pneumatics, automation, and fluid process serving both the industrial, OEM, MRO, and mobile equipment markets.  Due to aggressive company expansion initiatives, the opportunity has arisen for an In-House Corporate Counsel to join our growing organization.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will provide senior management with effective legal advice and assist in the negotiation of contracts and agreements. This role will partner with our business unit leaders to proactively assess and manage different risk factors regarding business decisions and operations, and manage routine legal matters. Specific responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Draft and negotiate contracts and agreements on behalf of the company
  • Participate in structuring and negotiating complex transactions and set up procedures to reduce risk
  • Counsel senior management related to business practices and policies, and advise on contract status, legal risks, and the legal liabilities
  • Provide advice and guidance on enforcing employment non-compete and restrictive covenant agreements
  • Assure that employee plans and policies comply with legal requirements
  • Resolve claims and disputes prior to litigation
  • Conduct company training on legal topics

Position Requirement
Education – Law Degree from a recognized university

Licensing– Admitted to a recognized Bar Association

Experience – 5+ years of experience gained in large law firm and/or in-house with major firm preferred

Skill and Knowledge

A candidate for entry into this position is likely to have a Doctorate. This position requires the ability to apply and/or interpret a specialized field composed of technical or general business principles, practices and techniques. Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively with others at all levels of the organization. Strong negotiating skills with both legal and financial/commercial issues. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.

Physical Demands – Position will involve sitting and computer use for a minimum of 8 hours a day
